A Queens man was arrested and charged with murder in a fatal shooting last month in Hempstead, Nassau police said Wednesday.

William Flowers, 31, of 149-88 255th St., Rosedale, was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead in the killing of James Warren, 29, of Hempstead.

Homicide Det. Lt. John Azzata, said Flowers was arrested in Warwick, R.I., last week by Warwick police and Nassau detectives. After waiving extradition, Flowers was brought back to Nassau Wednesday to face the charges, he said.

"We started looking for him and that's where we found him," Azzata said. "He was working in Warwick, Rhode Island. The company he was working for sent him there."

The arrest was made without incident in the hotel where Flowers was staying, Azzata said.

On Jan. 30, Hempstead police responded to a call of shots fired at the rear of 600 Fulton Ave. about 6 p.m. and found Warren "lying on the sidewalk," police said in a news release at that time.

Warren was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, police said, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Police did not give out any information Wednesday regarding any possible relationship between the two men or a possible motive for the killing.
