A Queens Village man arrested in connection with misdemeanor marijuana possession in New Hyde Park had the charges jacked up to a felony after kicking one arresting officer and repeatedly biting another, Nassau County police said.

Police responding to a report of a dispute on Baxter Avenue about 12:29 p.m. Sunday said they saw Arturo Salazar's vehicle in the driveway with the engine running and a door open.

Salazar, 21, was arrested in connection with unlawful possession of marijuana because 15 small bags of marijuana were on the front seat, police said.

After being arrested, he "became violent and combative, repeatedly striking the windows of the police car with his head, face, elbows and feet and then kicked one officer while biting another numerous times on the hands and elbow," a police statement said.

The officer who was bitten was treated at a hospital and released. Salazar was booked for assault in the second degree, a felony, and other charges, police said.
