The radio system that MTA bus drivers and their supervisors use to communicate suffered intermittent outages Wednesday afternoon, the bus agency said.

By Wednesday evening, service had been restored.

If a bus had broken down during the outage, a driver might not have been able to radio for help and would have had to pull over to the side of the road to use a pay phone or a cell phone, said Jerry Mikorenda a spokesman for the MTA Bus agency.

The radio woes also affected the Nassau County jail in East Meadow, but a jail source said that correctional officers used handheld radios and that jailhouse security was not affected.

A county police spokesman said the department's radios were not affected.
