Rainstorm leaves behind bit of snow
The departing rainstorm that soaked Long Island over the weekend left a bit of snow Monday morning as it moved northeast.
Meteorologist David Wally of the National Weather Service in Upton said it was unlikely that the brief flurries that hit eastern Nassau and western Suffolk counties between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. would have left much of an impression.
"We're not expecting any accumulation to speak of," Wally said. "Maybe some on the grass in a few areas but certainly none on the roadways."
The next few days should be dry and breezy, with temperatures in the mid 40s, the service said.
But a touch of snow could show up Wednesday night into Thursday, Wally said.
"Another Pacific storm system is moving in Wednesday night, and possibly at the onset of that storm we could get rain mixed with snow," he said. "But primarily that will be a rain event."
