Ralph Kreitzman, the former mayor of Great Neck, has been appointed to North Hempstead’s Community Development Agency board.
Kreitzman, unseated by political newcomer Pedram Bral by a 3-1 margin in last June’s village election, was appointed to the unpaid post at Tuesday’s town board meeting. He replaces former Nassau Comptroller Howard Weitzman, who resigned from the agency board because he had difficulty attending night meetings, town officials said.
Weitzman, a Democrat, served as Nassau County comptroller from 2001 through 2009 and is a former mayor of Great Neck Estates.
The development agency works to help communities with their revitalization projects. The agency has spearheaded affordable housing lotteries and has secured grants and loans to spur business activity in low-income neighborhoods.
North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth said the town was “so delighted” to welcome Kreitzman, also a Democrat, to the board. She said he “has enormous experience in the real estate world and in government.”
