Rep. Carolyn McCarthy raises $233G in donations

Campaign contributions continue to flow to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who's being treated for lung cancer -- she reported Monday that she raised $233,285 in the last three months.

McCarthy, a Mineola Democrat in her ninth term, raised about a third of that amount, or $70,560, at a Washington, D.C., barbecue dinner fundraiser on June 25.

But McCarthy was unable to attend, said her spokesman Shams Tarek.

Her campaign held the event, with tickets at $1,000 and $2,500, three weeks after McCarthy announced her medical leave for what she called a "treatable form of lung cancer."

Tarek said: "She intends to come back after her treatment and recovery are over. But it's not going to be before the end of the August recess."

McCarthy is being treated as an outpatient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, he said.

She has entered into the Congressional Record three separate notices of how she would have voted on major legislation had she not been absent.

A big source of McCarthy's funding continues to be small donations from New York and around the country by people who support her gun-control agenda, her campaign said.

She has $686,081 in the bank, according to her campaign finance report with the Federal Election Commission.

Meanwhile, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) reported contributions of $246,453 -- $30,000 of it raised by his mentor and lobbyist Al D'Amato. He has $2.5 million in cash on hand.

Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) said he raised $472,110. He has $546,109 in the bank.

Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) had not filed by early evening.

New York Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer voluntarily filed reports online.

Gillibrand, who is up for re-election in 2018, said she raised $81,296 and that she has $1.9 million in cash. Schumer, who faces re-election in 2016, said he raised $216,119 and has $9.8 million in the bank.
