The Loop Parkway drawbridge in the Town of Hempstead will be closed to traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to complete repairs started on the bridge last week, state Department of Transportation officials said.

The full closure comes after one westbound lane was closed to traffic last week during repairs to the 75-year-old drawbridge, said an agency spokeswoman. The bridge will remain in operation for boaters' use. Officials said that emergency service providers, officials and area schools have been notified of the temporary closure.

Motorists are being alerted via electronic roadway signs.

Officials recommended that motorists use the Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges as alternatives.
