Republican Alesia to fill Oyster Bay board seat
Attorney Rebecca Alesia, a Plainview Republican who ran a strong but unsuccessful campaign against veteran Nassau Legis. Judy Jacobs last fall, has been appointed to the Oyster Bay Town Board to fill the vacancy left by Rose Walker.
Walker won the county legislative seat vacated by then-Republican Legis. Edward Mangano when he decided to run for county executive. Mangano was expected to be appointed to Walker's seat when he lost his underdog bid. But Mangano upset the plan by beating Democratic County Executive Thomas Suozzi, putting the town board seat up for grabs.
Alesia is a third-generation Nassau Republican: daughter of Oyster Bay Public Works Commissioner Jack Libert and granddaughter of the late Nassau Planning Commission Director Herbert Libert. - Celeste Hadrick
