Richard Monticciolo, of Lynbrook, dies in freak auto accident upstate, cops say
A Lynbrook man was killed in a bizarre Memorial Day weekend accident in which his car rolled over him as he tried to free it, State Police said Thursday.
Richard Monticciolo, 61, died after Saturday's single-car accident, involving his 2013 Cadillac, in Fremont, upstate Sullivan County, police said.
Monticciolo was "attempting to locate the home of a friend" when he drove past the friend's driveway, made a U-turn -- and his car got stuck, police said. Monticciolo then exited the Cadillac and attempted to free it while pushing it from behind.
The car then rolled backward, police said, and wound up on top of Monticciolo.
Construction workers from a nearby job site came to Monticciolo's aid, police said, freeing him from under the car.
Monticciolo was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center, where he died of what police called "traumatic injuries."
