An Inwood man who tried to steal cash from a North Bellmore gas station was arrested Tuesday after a scuffle with the store's employees, police said.

Nassau police said just before 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, Gregory J. Scott, 59, walked into the Xtra Fuel Gas Station office at 2663 Jerusalem Ave. and stole an unknown amount of cash from behind the counter.

Just then, a 53-year-old male employee confronted the robber, and the two got into a scuffle. Hearing the commotion, a second male employee, 77, ran to help his co-worker restrain Scott until police got there.

First Precinct officers arrested Scott a short time later. The older employee was cut on his hand during the melee, but refused medical attention.

Scott, of 11 Bayview Ave., is charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
