A Roosevelt man pleaded guilty Friday to driving the wrong way down a Hempstead street while drunk and high on drugs, crashing into a motorcyclist and killing him.

Trevor McBride, 36, had a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent -- almost twice the legal limit -- and marijuana in his system four hours after the July crash that killed William Escobar, 34, of Hempstead, authorities said.

"The defendant was so drunk that he didn't even know what side of the street he was supposed to be driving on, and that reckless decision to get behind the wheel has led to an innocent man's death and his own imprisonment," Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement.

A receptionist at the law office of Felice Muraca, the Mineola attorney representing McBride, said he would not comment on the case.

The fatal crash occurred at 12:35 a.m. July 12, Nassau County police said. They said McBride was driving a 1964 Chevrolet north in the southbound lanes of Greenwich Street when he crashed head-on into the motorcycle.

Police said at the time that, after the collision, McBride continued to drive north toward Willow Avenue -- with the motorcycle still stuck to his grille.

McBride pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and to driving while impaired by the combined influence of drugs and alcohol. His promised sentence is 4 to 12 years.

He will be sentenced Jan. 27, officials said.
