Roosevelt teen faces weapons charge

Nassau County police detectives on Saturday arrested a 17-year-old who allegedly tried to hide a loaded handgun from them in Roosevelt, police said.
The detectives, all members of the department's Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team, took Maliq Stevenson, of Park Avenue, into custody at 12:55 a.m. after seeing him grab at a bulge in his pants pocket, take out a .380-caliber handgun and place it on the ground next to the tire of a nearby van outside a residence on Horace Avenue near Lakewood Avenue, police said.
Stevenson was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
