Rosedale man accused of scamming Pep Boys stores, cops say
A Rosedale man was accused of stealing from Pep Boys auto parts stores for more than $100,000 with phony credit cards, police said.
Nassau police said that Kevin Thomas, 27, of 245-12 149th Drive, Rosedale was charged Monday with second degree grand larceny after being arrested in Queens Criminal Court where he was being arraigned on unrelated charges of criminal mischief.
The Nassau County Crimes Against Property squad said Thomas used re-encoded credit cards at Pep Boys stores in Elmont and Baldwin.
Re-encoded credit cards schemes use stolen credit card data to reprogram credit cards' magnetic strip. The cards are then used to make purchases.
Thomas is due to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
