Freeport man shot to death in Roosevelt, police say

A Freeport man was shot to death in Roosevelt Saturday afternoon, Nassau County police said Sunday.

Members of an emergency crew pronounced Sayvon Marcus Burt, 21, dead at the scene after the shooting, which occurred at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in an alley near the intersection of Park and Lakewood avenues, police said.

The county's Shot Spotter system, an acoustic gunfire surveillance system, picked up the sounds of gunfire and a 911 call came in soon after reporting the shooting, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the homicide to come forward.
