School bus catches fire on Northern State in Westbury

A school bus caught fire late Tuesday morning on the Northern State Parkway in Westbury, police said.

Fortunately, there were no children on board at the time of the blaze - and the bus driver escaped unharmed.

State Police said the fire occurred on the eastbound Northern State just east of Exit 32, Post Avenue, at 11:25 a.m.

The Westbury Fire Department responded with two engines and quickly extinguished the bus, officials said.

It was not immediately clear what company owned the bus or what caused the blaze.
