Massapequa High School was locked down for about two hours Thursday evening as police conducted an investigation nearby, Nassau police and district officials said.

A Massapequa Board of Education meeting scheduled for Thursday night was canceled, and the school was locked down. No one was being allowed into or out of the building from about 5:15 to about 7 p.m., police said. A police spokeswoman did not have information about the investigation.

An alert was posted about the situation on the Massapequa Public Schools website Thursday evening, and parents in the district received an automated voice-mail message informing them of the lockdown and the canceled board meeting.

During the lockdown, students and others in the building after school were engaged in normal activities, the voice-mail message said.

The board of education meeting will be rescheduled, the district website said.
