Cops: East Meadow woman charged in hit-and-run that seriously injured boy, 11
Nassau police have arrested and charged an East Meadow woman after she struck and seriously injured an 11-year-old boy riding a scooter Sunday in Massapequa and then drove off, authorities said.
Laura Nucatola, 33, faces a charge of leaving the scene of an incident [serious injury], Nassau police said Tuesday night. She is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday.
On Monday, Nassau police released photos of a red crew cab pickup truck they said struck the boy as he rode the scooter on Eastgate Road. Police at the time said they believed the driver was a woman. Police Tuesday night did not say when or where Nucatola was taken into custody.
Police said the boy was riding the scooter when he was struck about 3:30 p.m. Sunday by the pickup.
He suffered what police described as “multiple serious injuries” and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said he was in stable condition Monday but did provide an update on his condition Tuesday night.
