Seaford man charged with trying to lure girl into car
A Seaford man was arrested Monday night, charged with attempting to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car in Roosevelt, Nassau County police said.
The incident occurred Saturday on Allers Boulevard at about 3 p.m., police said.
Jeffrey Bernstein, 68, was arrested at his home on Maywood Road Monday at 8:25 p.m., police said. He was charged with three counts of attempted luring of a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Bernstein, driving a tan car, approached the girl and tried to lure her into the vehicle. The girl ran off and called 911. A partial New York plate - with the letters EPU - also was reported.
First Squad detectives said Monday they were seeking the car, as well as the driver - who was described as having a scar on the left side of his face and wearing a Yankees hat and sunglasses.
It was not immediately clear Tuesday what led police to charge Bernstein.
