Seaford Union Free School District: School Voters Guide 2012
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Seaford Harbor School and Seaford Manor School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a budget of $57,791,120 for the 2012-13 school year, a 5.41 percent increase over the current $54,824,663 budget. The local tax levy would rise 2.5 percent, from $44,683,807 to $45,800,902.
This increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 2.93 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family house would increase 2.5 percent, from $5,904 to $6,052. The assessed value of the average single-family home is $861.
The proposed budget calls for cutting one teaching position and one clerical position. It also calls a reduction in bus service for high school students, which would mean a longer walk from home to the bus stop for some high school students.
