A shark was reported off Jones Beach Tuesday afternoon and the waters were off limits to swimmers for 90 minutes, authorities said.

Lifeguards cleared the waters when a report at about 5 p.m. claimed a shark had been spotted off the East Bathhouse, authorities said.

Authorities tried to confirm the presence of a shark, but by 6:30 p.m., swimmers and bathers were allowed to return to the ocean.

Other details were not immediately available Tuesday evening.
