Man shot to death in New Cassel early New Year's Day, police say

A man was found shot and killed early New Year's Day in New Cassel, Nassau County homicide detectives said.
Police officers responded to Railroad Avenue near Siegel Street shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday for a report of a victim who had been shot, authorities said.
Once they arrived on the scene, officers found the unidentified 40-year-old male victim.
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police originally said the victim was 51, before correcting themselves. The investigation into the early morning homicide is ongoing.
