Skateboarder, 15, killed by car in Syosset
A 15-year-old boy was killed Sunday after a car collided with him as he and a friend rode their skateboards along the shoulder of a Syosset street, Nassau police said.
The name of the teenager was not released pending notification of next of kin, officials said Sunday night.
The driver of the car, a 32-year-old man, was not injured. His car was impounded for brake and safety inspections but he was not held, police said.
About 1 p.m. Sunday, the skateboarders were heading southbound along the shoulder stripe on the right side of South Oyster Bay Road just south of Parkfield Court, police said.
The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Impala hit the skateboarder, police said. The boy then suffered a serious head injury when he hit the ground after colliding with his friend, police said.
He was taken to Syosset Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m., officials said.
The victim's friend was treated for a broken ankle at a hospital, police said.
