Skimming device found at Plainview TD Bank, say cops

Routine repairs on a TD Bank ATM in Plainview turned up a skimming device, which "compromised" numerous people's accounts, Nassau County police said Wednesday.

On the same day -- March 9 -- the repairman found a second device on a card entrance outside the bank, at 500 Old Country Rd.

A TD Bank spokeswoman said by email Wednesday that the bank "started working to notify any potentially affected customers immediately after the device was discovered . . . All potentially affected cards have been deactivated"

"TD Bank has reached out to all customers who may have been affected by this incident to answer questions and will work with them directly to address and correct any issues as quickly as possible," the bank said in a statement.

TD Bank has improved its ATM technology to help thwart skimming thieves, and is working with the investigators, the bank's statement said.

Consumers who used that branch's ATM -- or nearby ATMs -- should check their accounts for any losses, the police said.

A police spokesman had no further details.
