Slip on ice leads to woman's death: police

Police say a woman found dead Friday afternoon in Port Washington waters had slipped off an icy landing near a houseboat and struck her head, Nassau County detectives theorize.

The death of the 57-year-old woman, whose name won't be made public until her next of kin are informed, was discovered Friday afternoon around 2:19 p.m. near Matinecock Avenue when a passerby who found the body, police said.

Authorities say they plan an autopsy.
