Long Island will see toasty highs in the low 40s during the day Thursday, but light snow is falling across the region this morning and may return tonight.

The National Weather Service released a special statement, which said light snow will develop across Long Island over the next few hours. Motorists are urged to slow down and be prepared for slick road conditions this morning, the statement said.

There's a 20 percent chance of snow showers Thursday evening. The lows will be around 19 at night with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour.

Temperatures will rise during the day Thursday, when it will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain after noon.

The possibility of snow returns late Friday, although the chance is slighter. The weather service says there's a 20 percent chance of snow after midnight Friday.

The likelihood of snow increases Saturday, when the chance of snow around 40 percent. It will be cloudy, the weather service says, and temperatures that day will be around 27.
