South Floral Park Village to get website
South Floral Park Village is joining the Internet age.
The village board voted last week to approve a contract for $1,850 for the creation of a village website.
The site, which would cost $14.95 per month to maintain and $19.95 per year for the domain name, would allow residents to view local laws, download village forms and get up-to-date information, officials said at Thursday's board meeting.
"No municipality should be without a Web presence," Mayor Geoffrey N. Prime said. "There is always a monetary reason not to do it, but it was about time to have website."
Once the contract is signed, the website would be ready to go live online within a month. The village would provide the site information to website developer Jerry Allocca, Prime said.
Prime said he won't know the site's Web address until the village is ready to purchase a domain name and sees what is available.
Village officials also completed the Kingston Avenue Project, which regraded the road and improved the drainage system. The village received a grant for about $17,500 from the New York State Department of Transportation's Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program to fund the project.
The village also received a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help with the village's residential rehabilitation program for fixed-income residents. Officials expect to receive the money in mid-October, they said.
The village will hold a public hearing on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in Village Hall on two proposed laws: one that would require that fences be kept in good condition, and another that would ban the feeding of feral cats.
