The Ferret Man, famous for his contentious 1999 exchange with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, is back, this time taking on Nassau Executive Edward Mangano. David Guthartzof Oceanside accuses Mangano of reneging on a campaign promise to set up his Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Ferrets as a quasi-county agency. He's also contacted Suffolk legislators. When Guthartz called Giuliani's radio show opposing a city ferret ban, the mayor blasted "this excessive concern with little weasels," a tirade replayed during his 2008 presidential run. Mangano said he's "impressed with Mr. Guthartz' passion for ferrets" but says his request would "probably fall under a federal umbrella."
