Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, below, became one of the constant TV and radio presences as Tropical Storm Irene hit his home county, with reports ranging from warnings against the use of candles to updates on local flooding. But New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in contrast to last winter's blizzard fiasco, was the most frequent media denizen along with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Suffolk officials issued statements but did not provide the same media presence.
