Friday's warm temperatures set a new record well before noon, according to the National Weather Service.

The previous record was 60 degrees, set in 1969. By 10 a.m. Friday, the high was 61 degrees at Kennedy Airport and climbing, meteorologist Matt Scalora said. The high should hit the 70-degree mark in some places including Central Park, he said.

Even the night weather promises to be temperate, with forecasts of 10 to 15 degrees above normal, he said.

Saturday should be similarly warm and sunny, he said, with rain moving in Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters have yet to determine whether a record has been set at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
