A state trooper was rear-ended Monday night in East Williston after he had stopped on the Northern State Parkway to help a disabled car, state police said.

Three lanes of the westbound parkway at Exit 29A were shut down about 11 p.m. as three people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to the hospital, police said.

The officer was in his car in the center lane of the parkway when another vehicle crashed into his, police said.

He and two people in the other car were hurt, police said.

The long approach to Exit 29A, a major hookup to westbound Long Island Expressway, is straight and then the parkway curves a bit as it moves away from the exit.

State police said it was not a blind curve and that the driver of the vehicle that hit the trooper's car should have been able to see it in time. It's not clear how fast the car was going, police said.

No other details were available as investigators gathered evidence at the scene.
