Storm systems could dust LI with snow this week

Bad news: Long Island could see more snow in the next 48 hours.

Good news: Serious amounts aren't involved.

Bad news: Forecasters are eyeing a storm system that could be in our area Wednesday, though it's not expected to be an ugly one.

That's the snow update from John Murray, National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton. Murray said sporadic light rain is expected on Long Island Monday and Tuesday, with snow showers possible overnight when temperatures drop.

"As far as amounts are concerned, it will not be anything significant," Murray said. "Less than an inch, pretty much trace amounts."

Sunday, Murray said forecasters were tracking a weather system in New Mexico and West Texas that's expected to be near us Wednesday, but to pass far enough offshore that only light amounts of snow are possible.

Of course, that's just a forecast.

"There is some uncertainty," Murray said. "There could be slight changes to the track."
