The Long Beach Bridge was stuck in the up position for southbound traffic for a period on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Motorists traveling in that direction were diverted into one of the northbound lanes. The bridge was later opened in both directions.

The toll-free bridge -- which opened in 1922 and was replaced in the mid-1950s -- connects the City of Long Beach to Island Park.
