Subway restaurant worker stole money from register after closing shop, police say

A Westbury restaurant worker was arrested after Nassau police said he stole money from the cash register not long after closing up shop.

Police said Javier A. Alvarracin, 20, of Westbury, was working at Subway at 890 Old Country Rd. on Oct. 10, and closed the store at 11 p.m.

Police said they later discovered that he returned at 3:46 a.m. the next morning, entered through an unlocked back door, and removed an undisclosed amount of money from a cash register.

Alvarracin was arrested at his home without incident on Monday evening, police said.

Alvarracin, of 2241 Dogwood Lane, is charged with third-degree burglary.

He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday and is being held on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond, according to court records.
