An argument between two people in a car led to an accident on Sunrise Highway Monday that left two teenagers critically injured, police said.

According to detectives, a 22-year-old man was driving a 2005 Nissan eastbound on Sunrise Highway at about 3:45 a.m. in Seaford when he got into an argument with a passenger in the rear seat, Leanne Gilzeane, 19, of Seminole Avenue in Seaford.

“Gilzeane began to strike the driver causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a utility pole,” police said in a news release Monday.

An 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were ejected into the roadway. Both were taken to hospitals and listed in critical condition, police said.

The 23-year-old man in the front passenger seat was treated and released from the hospital and Gilzeane and the driver were admitted for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Gilzeane is charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree. She will be arraigned “when medically practical, ” police said.

The highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
