Suspect arrested in shooting outside LI bar
Police have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with a shooting Saturday outside a bar on Austin Boulevard in North Long Beach.
Angel Martinez, of 4248 Broadway, North Long Beach, was arrested Tuesday in Wyandanch and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He also had an open warrant for disorderly conduct in Hempstead, police said.
Nassau County police said Martinez approached a 36-year-old man at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Costa Del Sol Restaurant and Bar on Austin Boulevard. Police said Martinez asked the man to step outside to speak -- and, once outside, shot the victim in the abdomen.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where police said he is in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury. Martinez fled, before being located by Nassau Bureau of Special Operations police officers on Tuesday.
Martinez faces arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
