Dasheen Simpkins, 20, of Flushing, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, and charged with grand larceny and petty larceny in connection with thefts during a men's basketball game at LIU Post in Brookville on New Year's Day, police said. Credit: NCPD

A Queens man was arrested Wednesday, charged with stealing cellphones from coaches and players at a men's college basketball game at LIU Post in Brookville on New Year's Day, police said.

Dasheen Simpkins, 20, of 162-08 77th Ave., Flushing, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and four counts of petty larceny after his arrest by Nassau County police Second Squad detectives at his home at 8:20 p.m.

Police said that during a men's basketball game between Post and Adelphi at Post, Simpkins is suspected of entering the visiting team locker room and taking four cellphone and two cellphone cases from players and a coach.

Police said detectives linked Simpkins to the crime through video surveillance footage.

Simpkins was arraigned Thursday and being held pending a $750 bail.
