Suspect sought in E. Meadow rape

Nassau County police said they are looking for someone who committed a rape at knifepoint on Aug. 18 at about 5 a.m. near Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.
The suspect is in his late 20s or early 30s with a slight beard and is about 5-foot-9, police said. He was wearing orange basketball shorts, a black and gray T-shirt and white sneakers and carried a blue backpack, police said.
Police said the man "displayed a knife and forcibly raped the victim," then ran.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
