Suspect sought in Roosevelt street robbery

A 24-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed early Wednesday on a street in Roosevelt by a man who jumped out of a car, punched her and stole her purse, police said.

The street robbery occurred about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Nassau Road and Babylon Turnpike, Nassau County police said. The woman, who was punched in the eye, was not seriously injured.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect, who fled the scene in a tan four-door sedan. It was not clear how much money was stolen.
