Police are searching for two male suspects they said illegally entered a Uniondale cemetery early Monday evening and burglarized a building, stealing keys to a Town of Hempstead van -- then crashing that van into a large headstone.

The headstone and the van were damaged, Nassau County police said.

The two suspects then fled the scene on foot, police said.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery on Nassau Road.

Police said the two, identified only as males, entered the cemetery -- then entered a building on site through an unlocked window. There, the two took keys to the town van, later crashing the van into the headstone. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
