Suspects sought in Freeport purse-snatch
Police are searching for a pair of purse-snatching bandits who used a car to stalk their victim in a supermarket parking lot in Freeport on Tuesday night -- then used the auto to make their getaway.
The robbery occurred in the lot of the Compare Foods supermarket on North Main Street at 9:55 p.m., Nassau County police said. The victim, identified only as a 68-year-old woman, was knocked to the ground during the robbery, suffering a wrist injury. She refused hospital treatment, police said.
Police said the robbers were in a gray four-door auto and that one, about 6-foot and in his late 20s or early 30s, jumped from the car, grabbed the woman's pocketbook and, after a struggle during which the victim was knocked down, re-entered the car.
The suspects then fled the scene on North Main, police said.
