'Suspicious' bag no threat at Jones Beach
An investigation Tuesday night into a suspicious bag outside the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater ended with Arson / Bomb Squad officers finding nothing more than "clothing and personal items," police said.
The scare occurred during a concert by Santana and The Allman Brothers after Nassau County police said a security guard at a baggage check area saw a man place "a suspicious item" into a flower bed -- and then leave the area.
The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m.
Police said the security guard notified State Police, who in turn called in the Arson / Bomb Squad to determine if the duffel bag contained an explosive device. But police said a search determined the bag contained "no bomb-making components."
Instead, police said, the bag contained clothing and other items. No one was charged and police said the bag was turned over to State Park Police.
