A Syosset woman was arrested Sunday, charged with stealing the identity of an elderly neighbor to make fraudulent retail purchases in December, Nassau County police said.

Margaret Suraci, 52, of Eastwoods Road, assumed the identity of her 86-year-old neighbor in their senior citizens development, police said, then obtained credit in her name in order to make the purchases.

Those fraudulent purchases were made Dec. 20, police said. Police did not say what items were purchased by Suraci.

Suraci was charged with second-degree identity theft and is scheduled for arraignment in First District Court Monday in Hempstead.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
