A taxi driver was seriously injured early Saturday when he crashed into a light pole in Hempstead.

The man crashed into a metal light pole about 12:30 a.m., snapping it in half, at Fulton and South Franklin avenues, authorities said.

The driver had to be cut free by Hempstead firefighters and Nassau County police after he became trapped in the car, police said. The man, who was not identified, was taken to NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola to be treated for his injuries.
