Man, 19, struck, killed by car in East Garden City, Nassau police say

A 19-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a car and killed early Tuesday in East Garden City, Nassau County police said.
The fatal collision occurred about 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and South Street and the driver remained at the scene, according to police.
The pedestrian, whose identification was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to a nearby hospital, where police said he was pronounced dead about 3:48 a.m.
The car, a 2020 Honda Civic, was impounded for a safety check and police closed the road between Merchants Concourse and Clinton Road until about 7 a.m.
Additional details were not immediately available. Police said the investigation is continuing.
