Teen seriously injured while crossing North Merrick street, fire chief says
A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was hit Thursday afternoon by a vehicle as she crossed a street in North Merrick, a fire chief said.
When police, fire and ambulance medics arrived within minutes, they found a teenager in a uniform lying in the middle of Camp Avenue, near Remson Avenue, said James Rogers, chief of the North Merrick fire department.
"She had excellent care, and she was conscious the whole time," he said.
Several of the officers, fire chiefs and ambulance personnel at the scene were paramedics and emergency medical technicians with advanced training, he said.
She was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, Rogers said. The driver stayed at the scene, he said.
Nassau police said details were not immediately available.
