A 17-year-old boy was shot in the ankle in Hempstead Saturday afternoon, Nassau police said.

According to detectives, the boy was walking on Oakland Street when he saw a blue four-door automobile headed west on the street. He heard a gunshot, looked down and saw he was bleeding.

A Nassau County police ambulance took him to a nearby hospital.
