Ten beaches that had been closed due to high bacteria levels were reopened Sunday, according to the Nassau County Department of Health.

The beaches -- Centre Island Sound, Creek Club, Lattingtown Beach, Laurel Hollow Beach, Piping Rock Beach Club, Pryibil Beach, Ransom Beach, Theodore Roosevelt Beach, Soundside Beach and Stehli Beach -- had been ordered closed after heavy rains sent storm runoff into the waters, causing bacterial levels to rise.

On Sunday, the beaches were open again, according to the county's recorded beach-closure hotline. The Biltmore Beach Club in Massapequa remained closed due to continued elevated bacterial readings.
