A thief who handed a bank teller a threatening note left empty-handed after the teller read the note and walked away, Nassau County police said.

The thief handed the teller a note that said "ARMED" and a brown plastic bag at the Citibank in Rockville Centre Saturday about 2:55 p.m.

The teller "observed the note, got up and walked away from her station," Nassau police said in a news release. The thief took back the note and the bag and fled the Citibank, at 41 Front St., police said.

The suspect was described as a slim man in his late 30s who's about 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He wore dark sunglasses, a white zippered hoodie, blue jeans and a knit winter hat.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the Citibank instructs its employees to walk away from thieves or if it had bandit barriers.

No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

Police ask for information to be phoned into their hotline: 1-800-244-TIPS.
