The Town of Hempstead's Family Festival by the Sea will be Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

"The Family Festival celebrates our township's cherished nautical heritage," Supervisor Kate Murray said in a news release.

The release said residents and visitors alike are welcome to the event, which it said would include live concerts, food, craft and novelty vendors, sand sculptures, circus entertainers, eating contests and children's shows.

A clam- as well as a rib-eating contest will be Saturday at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in entering either should call 516-812-3307.

There will be puppet shows, circus performers, animal acts, pony rides, a petting zoo and science exhibits.

Two children's acts are also featured: "Monkey, Monkey Music" on Saturday and "Darlene Graham" on Sunday.

The park is at 630 Lido Blvd. Admission and parking are free.
