Town of Hempstead opens cooling centers, extends hours at pools and beaches

Hot, humid weather has prompted the Town of Hempstead to open cooling centers and extend the hours at pools and beaches.

The town said in a Monday news release that 15 cooling centers will be open through Wednesday, along with longer hours of operation at 15 swimming pools and eight beaches.

The cooling centers listed are open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., starting Monday and through Wednesday.
